Jazz Band

Jazz Band will start the second week of school, on Wednesday, September 12th, at 7:20 a.m. We will be holding auditions for both Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab Band this year. The audition music has been uploaded to a google drive which can be accessed here as well as below.

Please prepare and record from the beginning to measure 19, and, without stopping the recording, from measure 78 to the end (only once, take just the second ending.) I have intentionally uploaded all of the parts so that you may audition on the part you feel the most confidence in playing.

Every student wishing to participate in the jazz groups this year will be required to audition, regardless of your status within the jazz ensembles this past year. The auditions will be recorded on your own, and emailed to me. They are due by midnight on Friday, September 7th.

In your email to me, you need to include:

- Your name
- Which group you're auditioning for
- Whether or not you're fine being placed in either the Ensemble or Lab
- Your recorded audition

Audition results will be posted on the doors by the band room on Tuesday, September 11th.

Jazz Ensemble will rehearse Mon/Wed/Fri, and Jazz Lab Tue/Thu. All rehearsals will take place from 7:20 a.m. and will run until 8:10 a.m.

Jazz Ensemble

Berkley prides itself on its strong jazz program, consistently performing and presenting itself as one the top jazz ensembles in the state. In the past, the Jazz Ensemble has been featured performers in many settings, including New Orleans, New York, and Chicago. The ensemble is comprised of top members of the Concert Ensembles, and meets before school for rehearsal. While the Jazz Ensemble is an auditioned ensemble, any musician wishing to perform jazz may partake in the Lab Band, also held before school.

Jazz Lab

The Berkley Jazz Lab is for any student wishing to study jazz, on any instrument. This developmental ensemble is designed for students who wish to further develop their skills in the jazz medium, including playing stylistically and improvising.
