Mr. Folmar is in his 3rd year of teaching in the Berkley School District. He currently directs the MYP Bands at Norup International School and the 8th Grade Band at Anderson Middle School, as well as teaching Elementary Music for Norup's 3rd and 4th Grades. Before coming to Berkley, Mr. Folmar taught for 4 years in Manton, Michigan, where he was awarded the 2015 HS Teacher of the Year from the Veterans of Foreign Wars District 12.
Mr. Folmar is a graduate of Central Michigan University, where he studied saxophone with Professor John Nichol. He is an alumni of the Lambda Tau Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi (National Honorary Band Fraternity) and the Iota Rho Chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda (National Music Honors Society). Currently Mr. Folmar plays Baritone Saxophone in the South Eastern Michigan Wind Ensemble and Cass Quartet.
Adam Collins is a 2014 graduate of Eastern Michigan University, with a bachelor's degree in Instrumental Music Education. Prior to graduation, Mr. Collins completed his student teaching with Ed Lucius at Thurston High School, in Redford, Michigan. Before his appointment as Director of Bands at Berkley High School, Mr. Collins has been active in the Southeast Michigan area as a percussion instructor and musician in many different community, high school, and collegiate ensembles.
In 2014, Mr. Collins was hired as the Director of Bands at Ypsilanti Community High School in Ypsilanti, Michigan. During his tenure at Ypsilanti, the bands achieved successes both locally and nationally. Many of the successes include receiving first place at the Windy City Classic Band Festival in Chicago, Illinois in May of 2015, performing for Eastern Michigan's Football Band Day Postgame in the Fall of 2015, working with a member of the Boston Symphony while on tour in Boston, Massachusetts in April 2016, and receiving the first division 1 rating at MSBOA Band Festival in YCHS History in March of 2017. The bands have also been selected to perform at Walt Disney World in the Spring of 2018, based upon an assessment of previous performances with Mr. Collins.
From 2010 to 2013, Mr. Collins worked for Steve Roberts at Ann Arbor Huron High School as assistant Drumline instructor alongside Pete Goodman. In 2008-2010 and 2012-2013, Mr. Collins also worked for Jason Smith, at Ann Arbor Skyline High School, where he was the school's first Drumline instructor, as well as Director and founder of the Skyline Winter Drumline, and later serving as Front Ensemble instructor, working alongside Adam Ginsburg. Mr. Collins has also worked at band camps for Ann Arbor Huron, Ann Arbor Skyline, Tecumseh, Blissfield, Mt. Morris, Grosse Ile, Lincoln Park, and Ypsilanti Community High Schools. For four summers, Mr. Collins served as Music Director for The University of Michigan Child Care Summer Theater Camp, where he taught, instructed, and accompanied performances of Peter Pan, Hercules, The Lion King, and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.
Mr. Collins has performed extensively over the last decade, both locally and nationally. He was awarded the William D. Fitch Band Award in 2007 for most outstanding Freshman, as well as the Dr. Thomas Tyra Band Award for Outstanding Senior Bandsmember in 2013. In 2008 and 2010, he was a performing member of the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps, receiving 16th and 15th place at the Drum Corps International World Championships, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Mr. Collins was also a participating member of the National Intercollegiate Band, an auditioned ensemble open nationally to all collegiate musicians, that performs at the Kappa Kappa Psi/Tau Beta Sigma National Convention every two years. With the NIB, he performed the world premiere of Adam Gorb's Repercussion's in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2011, and the world premiere of John Mackey's Redacted, in Springfield, Massachusetts in 2013. From 2011-2013, Mr. Collins also served as section leader for the Eastern Michigan University Wind Ensemble Percussion Section. In the past, he has performed with the Ann Arbor Concert Band, Canton Concert Band, Washtenaw Community Concert Band, Dexter Community Orchestra and is currently a performing member of the Saline New Horizons Band, the University of Michigan Life Sciences Orchestra, and the Ypsilanti Symphony Orchestra.
