Congratulations to the students for a great start to the season last night. After last night's email, I want to take a moment to clarify the dates assigned to the marching band. As a parent, I understand the challenges and planning involved with balancing schedules and transportation. With that beings said, I sent the dates I received for the marching band to use Hurley Field and forwarded them to you as quickly as I could after receiving them myself. In hindsight, I should have cross-referenced these dates first. I am removing two dates from the list of rehearsals, September 26 and October 11, in observance of two holidays. ***Rehearsal dates now appear on the BHS Bands Calendar. All other dates have been on the calendar since before the June mandatory meeting last spring. For the record, I am not an advocate of starting a rehearsal at 8:30 pm and ending at 10:00 pm, but there is only one turf football field with lights in Berkley, making scheduling a challenge for the district and our community. I am committed to improving communication and schedules with you promptly and apologize for any inconvenience this causes by not receiving these rehearsal days and times sooner. I assure you that I am committed to securing rehearsal dates as soon as possible to avoid conflicts with other activities, academics, work schedules, athletic events, etc. Thanks to the support and leadership of Mr. Meloche (BHS Principal), the marching band is now all in one class during the first semester. Having this time together in class may allow us to eliminate or alter some outside-of-the-school-day marching band rehearsals. Thank you, Mr. Meloche. I also want to publicly thank Mr. Horn (BHS Athletic Director) for securing rehearsal space for us in Hurley Field last week in preparation for our first Football game performance of the 2022 season.
I am very proud of the progress and growth of the marching band students, and I hope that many of you who were in the stands could see and hear a difference from our band camp performance two weeks ago. We look forward to adding the final tune to our 2022 production Still Standing at the next football game.
